Overview

Medium Exporter is a Chrome extension that helps users export Medium articles to Markdown format. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

Data Collection

For free users, we do NOT collect, store, or transmit any personal data.

If you buy Medium Exporter Pro, the only personal data involved is your email address, as described under "Pro Licensing" below.

What We Don't Collect:

• Personal information (name, email, etc.)
• Browsing history
• Article content or reading lists
• User behavior analytics
• Cookies or tracking data
• Login credentials

What We Don't Store:

• No user accounts or profiles
• No server-side data storage
• No cloud synchronization
• No backup of exported content

How the Extension Works

Medium Exporter operates almost entirely within your browser:

1. Local Processing: All article extraction happens locally in your browser
2. Direct Download: Exported files are saved directly to your computer
3. No External Servers: No data is sent to external servers or APIs
4. No Network Requests: Except for loading the original Medium pages you're already viewing, and the Pro license check below

Pro Licensing

Pro is activated by entering the email address you paid with. Here is everything that happens with it:

• On activation, your email is sent to our license server (medium-exporter-pro-api.onrender.com), which checks your email against our payment processor and returns whether a purchase exists. The license server logs the email for this check and keeps no other data.
• Periodic re-verify: the extension re-sends the same email to the license server roughly once a month to renew the license. That's all. No other data is ever transmitted.
• Local cache: the resulting license status is stored in your browser's local extension storage. It never leaves your browser except for the two checks above.
• Payment itself is handled by our payment processor: your payment details go directly to them, never to us. They will email you a purchase receipt from their own system; that email is the processor's feature, not ours. The processor's privacy policy covers your payment data.

Permissions Explained

The extension requests the following permissions for functionality:

• tabs: To access the current Medium article/page for export
• scripting: To extract article content from Medium pages
• downloads: To save exported Markdown files to your computer
• storage: To remember your export preferences (stored locally only)
• host_permissions: To access Medium.com and Medium custom domains

Data Storage

Local storage only: export preferences (article count, speed settings) and a display-only count of articles exported. No personal content is stored.

No cloud storage of your content: exported content is never sent to or stored on any server. The Pro "auto-backup" feature saves to your own computer: it only opens your own reading list in a tab and downloads the file locally.

Third-Party Services

The extension uses no analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The only third party involved is our payment processor, used for Pro purchases (see "Pro Licensing" above). We never see or store your card details.

This Website

This website uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with the site (e.g. which sections are viewed). No personal information is collected. The extension itself contains no analytics.

Data Security

• Article content and exports never leave your browser, so there is nothing to breach
• No user accounts or passwords exist
• The license server receives only an email string and keeps no other data

Children's Privacy

This extension does not target children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to Privacy Policy

If we ever change our privacy practices, we will update this policy, update the extension version, and notify users through the Chrome Web Store.
